SABIC pushes new polyetherimide foam for aircraft

Business News Agency September 27th SABIC Innovative Plastics recently launched Uitem foam. This new resin material can be applied to the interior components of new aircraft. Its quality is 10 to 20 times lighter than traditional plastic parts. At the same time the material meets the requirements for flame resistance, smoke concentration and toxicity (FST).
Fuel costs account for 35% to 37% of the total cost of the aviation industry. Continuously seeking to reduce the quality of passenger aircraft materials is the key to the airline's control of fuel costs to maintain profitability. For this demand in the aviation industry, SABIC Innovative Plastics has developed Uitem Foam, which is based on Uitem polyetherimide (PEI) resin material, density is 1/10-1/30 of the traditional resin, suitable for aircraft Housing/core/shell composite structure. The series offers three different densities of foam materials, 60 kg, 80 kg and 110 kg, respectively, for cubic meters. Suitable for a variety of composite materials processing processes, such as vacuum packaging, compression molding and thermoforming.
