National Research Finds the Best Balance

The reporter learned from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association on April 10 that the special investigation group for the development and environmental protection of the chemical industry along the Yangtze River organized by the National Development and Reform Commission, the State Environmental Protection Administration, and the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association has just completed Chongqing and Sichuan. Research. The mission of this research group is to conduct a site visit to the Yangtze River basin's carrying capacity of the chemical industry under the present conditions and to prevent the disorderly development in order to find the best combination of economic development and environmental security.

It is understood that half of the 20,000 petrochemical enterprises in China are currently located in the Yangtze River Basin, which has raised concerns about environmental safety pressures and pollution risks in the Yangtze River Basin. The CPPCC National Committee for Population, Resources and Environment, Xinhua News Agency, and the Democratic Progressive Center have issued three reports, pointing out that the Yangtze River Basin “has only 10 years of ecological life span”, “the problem of water environment safety is already very serious,” and “blindly, quickly and massively launched. Heavy chemical projects have seriously threatened the ecological environment of the Yangtze River basin." At the same time, in the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, the provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Valley still regard heavy chemical industry as a development priority, and have plans to increase and expand high energy consumption, high water consumption, and heavy pollution projects. The World Wide Fund for Nature has also issued a report stating that the world’s ten major rivers are endangered, including the Yangtze River and Nu River in China. “In the past 50 years, sewage, industrial waste and ship emissions have increased the pollution level of the Yangtze River by 70%.”

At the same time, relevant experts also believe that the chemical industry is an important pillar to promote China's national economic and social development. The coastal areas along the Yangtze River have abundant water resources and convenient transportation, making them ideal for the development of the petroleum and chemical industries. The petroleum and chemical bases in developed countries are also located in the coastal areas along the river. Therefore, efforts should be made to find the best balance between economic development and environmental security. The most urgent task at present is to prevent disorderly development by improving various laws and regulations. In this regard, the National Development and Reform Commission held a symposium on the development of the chemical industry along the Yangtze River and environmental protection in Beijing and proposed the investigation of chemical companies along the Yangtze River.

On March 30th, the research group began with the Yibin and Ganzhou in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It plans to spend about a month along the Yangtze River to Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai and other coastal provinces and municipalities along the Yangtze River. In-depth petroleum and chemical companies and the field, on-site inspections of relevant conditions, and will submit relevant measures to the State Council report.

Cylinder Block

A cylinder block, often referred to as an engine block, is the core component of most internal combustion engines. It is a large metal structure that contains the cylinders and other parts necessary for the functioning of an engine. The block is typically cast from a durable material such as iron or aluminum to withstand the high pressures and temperatures generated during operation. The cylinder block houses several critical components, including the cylinders, pistons, and Crankshaft. The cylinders are the spaces where fuel is burned, and the pistons move up and down within them, converting the energy created by the combustion into mechanical energy.
