Gas Sensors Embedded in Mobile Devices - Versatile "Electronic Nose"

According to foreign media reports, researchers have recently developed a new type of MEMS (micro electromechanical system) vacuum pump that can recognize odors. Since the figure is several hundred times smaller than before, it can be embedded in various mobile devices such as spectrometers. Or we are more familiar with the smart phone.
Today's odor sensors are used to detect specific odors/gases, such as carbon monoxide or smoke. The new “E-Nose” developed by Honeywell is a true multi-purpose device that is currently used in the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) micro-drone. It is a full-featured mobile mass spectrometer that monitors all elements under a specific sample. With this tiny sensor, everything from air pollution to dangerous chemicals can be detected.
However, don't expect this sensor to appear on your smartphone, which will take at least a few years. However, it will certainly make our mobile phone more versatile.
